Finding Your Writing Clans

By C.V. Lee
January 31, 2023

Who says writing has to be a lonely occupation? Not us! We believe writing communities are important at every stage in your writing life.

At the History Quill Writers Convention 2023, held on the first week of February, Lanterns C.V. Lee, Edie Cay, and Michal Strutin will discuss the various types of writing communities, the benefits of each, and where to find them.

Our panelists have varied backgrounds. Michal Strutin, author of Judging Noa, has worked in the publishing business for years, writing for several magazines. Edie Cay, author of the Regency Romance, A Lady’s Revenge, has always loved writing and received an MFA. By comparison, C.V. Lee, author of Token of Betrayal, is new to the business and relied on books and her writing communities to learn the craft.

For each of us, these communities have been essential to our success as writers and authors. What would I do without my peers to tell me that a plot point isn’t working? Or tell me how much they hate my character. Or when things need to be clarified for the reader.

Writing isn’t an easy business. Questions arise at every stage from conception to writing to publication and beyond. There is so much to learn, and so much information to wade through. Or maybe you just crave some social interaction. Writing communities can fill these needs. Gleaning knowledge from those that have navigated similar experiences can be invaluable.

I hope you will join us on Day 2 of The History Quill Convention. The topic of the day is Money and Mindset. Not only will we be talking about lots of writing communities, but we will provide insights to creating your own author collective—how we got started, what we do and what we have learned.

We look forward to seeing you there!
