Jillianne Hamilton writes happy endings for witty women.

What would you like readers to know about you?

I write historical fiction/romance featuring rebellious women, nice guys, wit, and happy endings. Since I use writing as a method of time travel, I tend to visit different periods in history in my books. I live in Anne of Green Gables Land on Canada’s lovely east coast.

Can you tell us what you’ve written?

I currently have two historical novels published: The Spirited Mrs. Pringle (Victorian histfic) and The Hobby Shop on Barnaby Street (WWII romance). I have also written a contemporary fiction trilogy and two non-fiction books, one of which is a playful guide to Henry VIII’s wives.

Did you choose historical fiction or did it choose you?

I inhaled The Royal Diaries series, Catherine, Called Birdy, and the Young Royals series as a kid. As I got older, funny books like Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging became my obsession. While researching something for my contemporary novels, I got pulled back into history and haven’t looked back since.

Can you share three books on your night table right now?

Wartime Farm by Peter Gunn, Ruth Goodman, and Alex Landlands; Before Versailles: A Novel of Louis XIV by Karleen Koen; and A Highlander for Hannah by Mary Warren, although I haven’t started that last one yet.

What do you do when you are not writing?

In my 9-5 life, I’m a web and graphic designer. I enjoy spending free time with my husband and overly energetic corgi, watch a lot of costume dramas, hiking, and dabbling in paper crafts, embroidery, and painting. And reading, obviously.

What brings you great joy as a writer?

When it comes to writing, nothing is more fun than creating witty banter between a hero and heroine. I also enjoy twisting fictional events around real ones, like two intersecting planes that meet in the middle to create a story. That’s something unique to historical novels that is really fun.

Jillianne Hamilton writes entertaining historical fiction and historical romance novels with happy endings. Her stories feature feisty female protagonists and plenty of sass and wit, using the past as an exciting backdrop. Her debut novel was shortlisted for the 2016 PEI Book Award.

She published her first historical novel, The Spirited Mrs. Pringle, in 2021.

A long-time history enthusiast, Jillianne has been blogging about history at The Lazy Historian since 2015. Her first non-fiction book, The Lazy Historian’s Guide to the Wives of Henry VIII, was released in 2018.

Jill lives in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island on Canada’s beautiful east coast.
