Q&A: What Are Your Writing/Reading Goals for 2024?

By Jillianne Hamilton
December 15, 2023

December always makes me think about what I want to (and what I can realistically) accomplish during the following year. I’ve already picked out a few goals for myself, some of which might be goals I didn’t quite reach in 2023.

Writing goal #1: I’m going to be publishing The Seamstress on Cider Lane in February
Writing goal #2: I’m going to be publishing The Land Girl on Lily Road in March
Writing goal #3: I’m going to bury my head in research for my next historical fiction novel

Reading goal: I’m going to make more time for reading

I get most of my reading done thanks to audiobooks that I listen to during my 9-5 as a graphic designer. During the last few years, I’ve just had a hard time sitting down and reading a physical book or an ebook for fun. I want to get better about that in 2024.

Alina

Hearts & Sails series author Alina Rubin plans to: “…publish Abigail’s Song in January, write and publish Imprisoned by end of the year, and produce at least one audiobook.”

Michal

Judging Noa author Michal Strutin will be seeking agents and/or publishers in 2024.

“I am determined to find an agent for A Perilous Masquerade, Book 1 of my Late Renaissance mystery trilogy and/or submit to indie publishers. At the same time, I‘ll finish draft 1 of Book 2, set in Istanbul, and start the draft 2 clean-up. Whew, I’m tired just writing that!”

Pamela

Pamela Nowak, author of Never Let Go and Choices, said: “My 2024 writing goals include completion of A Strong Heart, my work-in-progress, and location of a publisher for the project.”

Rebecca

The Map Colorist author Rebecca D’Harlingue said 2024 will be dedicated to research.

“In 2024 I’ll be reading more about how to write a mystery and doing further research on my setting to come up with an intriguing motive and method for the murder. Then, all I have to do is figure out all the twists and turns that will lead to a believable solution!”

Linda

Linda Ulleseit, author of The River Remembers, said: “In 2024 I will publish Innocents at Home, my latest heritage novel, and finish writing my memoir of twenty years of teaching public school.”

Do you have any reading or writing goals for 2024? We’d love to see them in the comments below.
