Eclectic author Heather Osborne writes both historical fiction and crime novels.

Do you listen to music while you write or edit? If so, what’s on your writing playlist?

I love listening to music while I write, and will often have a playlist for each of my novels with songs that inspire my writing. It honestly depends what I’m writing as to what songs feature on the playlist. For example, when I was writing The Soldier’s Secret, Safe and Sound by Taylor Swift and The Civil Wars played heavily in the background as I was composing some of the more emotional scenes. This is my channel where I have some trailers as well as my inspiration playlists.

What period of history do you wish you knew more about?

I would love to know more about Roman history in terms of how the people lived day-to-day. I’ve made it a small side project of mine to do my own research and I’m reading about Pompeii at the moment. I hope I can set a historical novel during this time period soon!

Do you have a favorite comic or graphic novel?

I love the Maus series by Art Spiegelman. It’s a very emotional and vivid depiction of the Holocaust, where the Jewish people are shown as mice and the Nazis as cats. I felt the metaphor was particularly apt and what made it more meaningful to me was that it was his father’s story.

What’s the best compliment a reader has ever given you?

“Your book made me fall in love with you even more.” This was from my fiancé before we started officially dating. I don’t think any reader has topped that to date!

Favorite non-reading activity?

I’m heavily involved in the theatre and I direct plays for our local theatre group. To date, I’ve directed four, and I’ll be directing my fifth next year.

Award-winning author Heather Osborne was born and raised in California. She has a Bachelor of Science in Criminology and Victimology from California State University, Fresno. In 2009, she moved to Scotland. Along with her novels and short stories, Heather also has written and directed several plays. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, writing (of course!), and theatre, as well as caring for her young son. Among her published titles are: The Soldier’s Secret, a historical romance set during the American Civil War; Bitter Bonds, a tale of black magic in the deep South in the 1840s, and the Rae Hatting Mysteries series.
